Sandy and the Zoo

What fun we had at the Hogle Zoo with my mom. It was rainy so all animals were out and about. We hid ourselves under cute umbrellas. Sonia wanted to keep hers even after the sky cleared up. Elephants were drinking just like in the Bean museum movie and we admired them.
Not giving away that umbrella... not yet ;-)
We rode striped Zebra. Then watched bears play and smack each other in their faces. We posed and played with bronze leopards. Sonia wanted everyone sit with her and couldn't decide if she like the baby or her mother better. Then we saw a leopard walk and jump; watching them pounce was mesmerizing.
My mom kept taking more and more pictures... well, you don't see these great cats active everyday at the Zoo. They usually catch their cat naps ;-)
The bird show kept Sonia breathless. She kept watching her favorite birdies and gasp with amusement. We saw hawks, Russian eagle, Golden eagle, a talking parrot, a flock of white doves and one huge bird flew so close to us. It touched Sonia's hair and I could feel the wind off its wings. At the end Sonia gave a parrot $1 bill and he deposited it in the donation box. She was thrilled!
The day was turning out perfect with train being repaired and us riding through Sonia's another fave tunnel ;-)
On the way back I discovered that I locked my keys in the trunk of a car. Thankfully Zoo security unlocked the car and we were okay for the next five minutes. Until we got hit by a biker. No joking!! I stopped at a red light perhaps a bit suddenly. I suppose the biker expected me to go through with another car and wanted to cross the street with me. Unfortunately she couldn't stop as quick as I did and hit the back bumper super hard. It was a bit stressful but everyone seemed okay; with badly scratched knees and elbows the biker decided not to go with an ambulance. After talking to police and spending half an hour filling out the documents, we went on our way to grandma's house. Sonia got to play with toys that her papa played with when he was little and to drink out of the same cup as he did. She also got into some dried flowers but didn't cause too much damage.
It was sad to leave everyone but we were glad to see our papa and Mischa soon!
