Running in the cool crisp air is one of the greatest pleasures in life. We have the wonderful 585-acre Prospect Park just two blocks away and this morning I was enjoying the beauty of it. I couldn't help thinking about last Wednesday when Jeremy and Sonia were my companions. We jogged and laughed and pushed our Sonia in a jogger along the way.
That day Sonia and I attended Jeremy's swearing in ceremony for the New York Bar. It was a grand event with a good crowd of people and a lot of security. The historic building took our breath away as we entered and reminded us how important courts are.... I was not sure if Sonia could handle the whole thing. Prior to the ceremony we were kindly told that all "caretakers will be asked to leave when baby becomes restless." So I was a bit worried.

Grand leather chairs, lots of detail and gold everywhere set the tone. Then came silence as the judges entered the room. I loved how reverent and dignified the room felt. No one made a sound. The judge addressed the applicants in a very easy and tasteful manner. But right when he finished his first sentence, our very own Sonia looked at him and started chattering away loudly "Da, da, da, da."
Jeremy was first in the line close to the Judge. He told me later that when Sonia started talking, the judge stopped, looked around as if to say something then smiled and continued on. After greeting the judge Sonia did really well. She listened as much as possible for a one year old, then quietly played.
I felt proud for Jeremy and all that lies ahead in his career. The judge reminded the applicants about their part in the courts and society. He laughed and said "Today no one likes lawyers or politicians but you can have an influence on many levels no matter what your party affiliation is." He also asked them to turn back, look at their families and friends and wave their hands in appreciation of the support received through all the ups and downs. It made us all feel really good ;-)
Then Jeremy got his certificate and now we just need to frame it for all to see ;-) Finally he made it!
